The title of Evgeny Antufiev’s recent solo exhibition at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Twelve, wood, dolphin, knife, bowl, mask, crystal, bones and marble – fusion. Exploring materials, is as esoteric as the objects and works that were distributed throughout. These included cloth, crystals, meteorites, bones, hair, teeth, glue, snakeskins, insects, marble and wood, all assembled with no obvious connection to one another. Antufiev work which is often imbued with a sense of ritual and the shamanic, part of the culture of his homeland, Siberia. A sense of mystery runs deep through his art.
