Alexander Povzner is an artist of chameleon-like qualities. When grouped together his sculptures, installations and objects are so varied in form and language they seem to have been made by several different artists. Ordinary objects, whether plinths, fences or supermarket bags become aphoristic commentaries on underlying, and often over-looked social structures. In Playground (2011-2014), the innocence of a children’s playground is subverted to become a panopticon, where those within its grounds are surveilled and controlled.
