Alex Buldakov

Alex Buldakov first gained attention with lo-fi video works XXXMALEVICH and SEXLISITSKY in which fragments of Suprematist shapes, borrowed from paintings by Malevich and Lissitsky, mutated into limb and body parts galvanised into carnal cartoon movements by a porn soundtrack. The message: contemporary Russian art is the progeny of the avant-garde. Buldakov has recently been working as part of Urban Fauna Laboratory, a long-term research project begun in 2011 with fellow artists Anastasia Potemkina and Ekaterina Zavialova. The group examines parasitic and symbiotic relationships in urban environments.
