Irina Korina’s installations give away her training as a set designer through their distinctly theatrical quality. Known for her enveloping installations made out of cheap, disposable materials such as kitschy floral fabrics or discarded furniture, Korina’s walk-through environments act as emotional triggers, activating memories or feelings in the viewer that can’t always be easily formulated into words. In 2009, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art dedicated a solo show to her works and in 2012 Korina was included in the Saatchi Gallery’s Gaiety is the Most Outstanding Feature of the Soviet Union, an overview of contemporary Russian art.
