Based in the southern Russian city of Krasnodar, Group ZIP is made up of Eldar Ganeev, Evgeny Rimkevich, Vasily and Stepan Subbotin. The group takes its name from a former factory for measuring devices, the site where its members first started working together in 2009. Their first project, The Living Nook (2009) took a small factory room and transformed it into a meeting and recreational space for the imagined workers of the long-derelict facility. Projects that have followed since share a similar sensibility: sensitive to their space and setting, the artists work to erase the boundaries between past and present, to complicate the linear forward-thrust of time and history.
