A week-long celebration of contemporary Czech cinema is set to open its doors in London.
Made in Prague 2018 will host four UK premieres, including new wartime drama Barefoot from Academy Award-winning director Jan Sverak.
Also featured in the programme is roadtrip comedy Winter Flies, which helped creator Olmo Omerzu take home the Best Director award at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and Vit Klusak’s stylised and unsettling The White World According to Daliborek, a documentary following a hapless Czech neo-Nazi who hates his job, Gypsies, Jews, refugees, dentists and spiders.
This year’s festival is just one part of CZECH100, a festival of art, design, fashion, theatre, music, and presented by the Czech Centre London to celebrate 100 years since the foundation of Czechoslovakia.
The opening night gala at the capital’s Barbican Centre will also give a special nod to classic Czechoslovak cinema with a screening of Jan S. Kolár’s epic St Wenceslas. Originally released in 1929, the silent film will be accompanied by a specialist medieval music ensemble.
Made in Prague will run from 28 October — 4 November 2018. For the full programme, click here.
