A interactive workshop delving into national identity in the age of free movement is coming to London for this year’s TAKEOVER festival.

Journey West will tackle the culture shock and stereotypes faced by eastern Europeans moving to the UK.

The workshop is part of an ongoing project by the European East Enders: a group of Polish students drawing on their own personal experiences to build events that will feed into a soon-to-be-confirmed 2019 art project.

Visitors can use the workshop to map their own migration journeys and confront stereotypes in discussions designed to reach across boundaries.

“Having moved to London thirsty for new experiences, younger generations now face two extremes. They [either] experience complete immersion in Western British culture, or cultivate [their] national identity and hardly integrate into their new environment,” co-organiser Sylwia Jankowska. “Where is the middle point? How do you find a balance and become a global citizen, but not forget about your roots?”

The workshop will take place on 5 August at Venue II at Rich Mix Cinema in Bethnal Green. To book your place, visit the website by clicking here.
