Designer Natalia Shendrik has won a silver medal at the European Design Awards for the rebranding of the Gogol Theatre in Moscow, now known as the Gogol Centre.
Announcing the prize on their website, ED said: “This logo embodies a revolutionary new concept of the theatre space, which is now a place for different activities — theatre, cinema, lecture hall, cafe. The project is a bold, fresh, brash, with reference to the avant-garde. The simple, rigid form of the logo is read both as letters and also as a visual symbol.”
The historic Gogol Centre has been reinvigorated by new artistic director Kirill Serebrennikov, an already acclaimed film and theatre director. Since reopening in February, the theatre has received widespread praise for its innovative productions.
