Japanese art is coming to life on these Moscow apartment blocks

18 December 2018

One of Japan’s most famous artworks has been recreated using six Moscow apartment buildings.

Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic The Great Wave off Kanagawa appears on the facade of the 31-storey tower blocks at the Etalon City apartment complex in south-west Moscow.

Reaching 87 metres high and stretching across almost 60,000 square metres, the wave faces outwards onto the nearby highway.

Three more buildings in the complex are decorated with bright patterns embodying the skylines of New York, Chicago, Barcelona, and Monaco. Each lobby is also decorated in honour of different cities around the world.
