This digital gallery is bringing contemporary art to your phone

Natalya Serkova and Vitaly Bezpalov, co-founders of the Tzvetnik online art gallery, believe there’s one, overriding reaction to the modern world that outshines all the rest: “what on earth is going on?!”
The same question could just as easily be asked of the pair’s online art project. Updated daily, Tzvetnik is one of the few online-only Instagram galleries posting snapshots of exhibitions taking place in some of the world’s lesser-known galleries and pop-up spaces. From Mexico and New York City to Vilnius, Moscow and Prague, Tzvetnik is unveiling the chaotic, contemplative pattern of contemporary art.
“This art is surprising by nature — you almost expect some kind of trick or twist. It’s visually very attractive and bold,” Natalya says.
Some of the featured exhibitions include an installation of curvaceous, cocoon-like objects covered with flies in New York; spiders made of gas pumps weaving white chemical nets inside a gas station turned pop-up gallery in Belgium; and an entire ethnographical museum turned into the setting for a installation in Croatia. Given the breadth of the art posted on the Instagram account, it’s hard to select adjectives that do it justice, but obscure and mesmerising perhaps comes closest.
There are currently four people working on the project, with a new section on music and interdisciplinary art to be launched soon. Watch this space.
