4 super stylish Moscow hotels that won’t break your budget

If you’re heading to Moscow for a few days, or even a week, and don’t fancy a spin on the Airbnb roulette, why not try one of the Russian capital’s beautiful boutique hotels? Here’s our selection of four places that offer both beautiful design and a comfortable night’s sleep.

Pokrovka 6

Relax in silk sheets near Moscow’s best bars

If black and white bathroom tiles, plenty of geometric shapes, and lush colours are your top three interior design needs, then Pokrovka 6 is for you. The welcoming silken embrace of the hotel’s small, but comfy, beds will be exactly what you need after a night out at the nearby bars of Sosna i Lipa, Na chile, or Zenziver. Located in the heart of trendy Kitai Gorod, the crowd here is young and lively, but its location is secluded enough to guarantee a peaceful night’s sleep. There is a yoga studio and a Thai massage salon in the same building, offering the perfect detox option if you’ve been partying too hard.

Brick Design Hotel

An experience as well as a place to spend the night

Forget familiar loft design: Brick Design Hotel is here to add a touch of sophistication to red brick wall interiors. Flick through a wide selection of beautiful photography books and magazines in the library to the gentle smell of Lo Labo candle, and enjoy waking up to an organic breakfast served on an opulent marble desk. The interior boasts carefully curated contemporary art and Danish design objects. There are no Pringles or Coke in the mini bar — but you can find nori chips and locally produced organic rose tea. Located on Myasnitskaya Street, Brick Design Hotel is the perfect choice for those who want an experience as well as a place to spend the night. A magnet for the local intelligentsia, this hotel has more than just design on offer.

Red Brick Hotel (Presnya)

A comfortable stay in one of Moscow’s best districts

Another red brick establishment, this low-key design hotel is nestled in the heart of Trekhgornaya Manufaktura, the landmark of a once-revolutionary neighbourhood near Barrikadnaya metro station. Nowadays, the area around Red Brick Hotel (Presnya) is populated by hipsters and loft offices, stylish cafeterias, and neon-lit Asian eateries. It also has one of Moscow’s finest skylines: the Gothic towers of a Stalin skyscraper, the iconic White House, and the futuristic Moskva-City skyscrapers. If Red Brick Hotel (Presnya) is full, there is another Red Brick Hotel in Kitai Gorod, a half-hour walk from the Kremlin.

Richter

A former mansion turned art gallery and hotel

This exquisite hotel in a former mansion is a new addition to Zamoskvorechye and is only a 10-minute walk from the Tretyakov Gallery. Richter was set up by the founders of Brick Design Hotel and Moscow-based media company Mamikhlapinatana, and includes a cafe, a reading room with international titles on art and design, two galleries, and a design hotel. Richter has hosted a number of exclusive parties that saw guests gaping in awe at the stunning ceilings and elaborate room designs. The organic linen bathrobes feature a medieval lion, Richter’s logo, and were a collaboration with Moscow-based streetwear brand Outlaw, while the curtains are made from authentic richelieu linen from the 1930s.
