A Russian perfume brand has been forced to pull a fragrance called Sexual Harrassment from the shelves amid a social media backlash.

Nikolai Eremin, the head of Nimere Parfums, apologised for the blunder on Instagram.

“My mistake was that, at that moment, I didn’t think about the real victims: the people who really have lived through this. I was only thinking about my own creative freedom and my own ego. I made a mistake,” he wrote to his followers. “Yes, creativity should be free, but only if it doesn’t hurt anyone.”

Founded in 2015, Nimere Parfum has given colourful names to a number of its products, including Gypsy’s Blood and Single Malt on the Rocks perfumes.

The perfume will now go under a sale under a different name.
