Set sail past King’s Landing and other Game of Thrones locations on a new cruise

Although the series has aired its final episode, your Game of Thrones journey could just be getting started. A new cruise exploring the HBO series’ filming locations in Croatia will be setting sail next summer, and you could be in with a chance of winning free places for you and three friends. Entrants must fill out the contest entry form and describe which GoT characters they and their friends identify with.

Cruise Croatia will launch their “one-time-only” Game of Thrones tour in 2020. The 37-space, seven-night cruise sets sail on 8 August from Split and will finish in Dubrovnik with an “epic farewell party” that, with luck, will prove more enjoyable than a now-infamous series finale that disappointed many hardcore Thronies.

Travellers will take guided tours of filming locations in both cities, and make stops at scenic Croatian spots like Krka National Park and Hvar island along the way. Other perks include daily breakfast and lunch on board, a Game of Thrones goodie bag, and economy-class return flights.

Croatia has long been a perfect summer getaway for GoT addicts. The southern city of Dubrovnik has served as the filming site for King’s Landing since season two, with iconic spots like Bokar fortress, Lovrijenac fortress (known to fans as the Red Keep), and Lokrum island (a.k.a. Qarth).

In Split, meanwhile, Diocletian’s Palace is home to the throne room, and Klis fortress plays the role of the city of Meereen. Split is also home to a new Game of Thrones museum, where visitors can check out replica weapons, costumes, and a dragon head.

Before you pack your bags, though, be warned: it’s unlikely that you’ll be the only Thronie visiting the country. The series has led to such an onslaught of mass tourism to Croatia, and Dubrovnik in particular, that city officials felt the need to limit the number of tourists allowed into the city’s Old Town in 2017.
