A new video game will give you the chance to seduce former Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and possibly change the course of history.
Sex With Stalin is set to be released in October, when you’ll be able to take on the role of a “young time traveler” and get to know Stalin like never before. Depending on your mood, you can either show him “real love” or, if you’re feeling more hardcore, “hit him in the stomach” and “plug the electricity in to his nipples”.
The game, the brainchild of a Russian developer called “Boobs Dev”, has already drawn heavy attention from state-sponsored media outlets in Russia and the ire of officials from Russian Communist groups.
The head of the Central Committee of the Communists of Russia, Maksim Surajkin, has called for the “outrageous and perverted” game to be banned. Communist Party representative Olga Alimova, meanwhile, suggested its developers need medical attention for creating the “abomination”.
Stalin remains a highly controversial figure in Russia almost 70 years after his death, with critics claiming that the current government has presided over a creeping rehabilitation of the dictator. Positive sentiment about the former dictator has been growing according to popularity polls, and a new statue in his honour was recently erected in Novosibirsk.
Last year, Armando Iannuci’s comedy The Death of Stalin was banned from Russian cinemas after Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky called it “an insulting mockery of the entire Soviet past”. We’ll see if Sex With Stalin gets the same treatment.
