Kosovo’s new national stadium will have a floating fabric façade

A new home for Kosovo’s national football team has been unveiled, complete with a gentle fabric façade wrapped around the stadium itself.

Kosovo National Stadium will be built in Drenas, roughly 12 miles from Prishtina’s airport and 20 miles from the heart of the capital.

The 30,000-capacity venue will include a flexible textile veil draped over the main stadium structure, gently lifting to create entrances and exits for spectators.

“The main intention is to break down the big scale and structure of a stadium and melt it [into] a thin curtain between the grass and the sky,” said Istanbul-based Tabanlıoğlu Architects, who designed the plans. “The neutral façade can be lit and coloured during matches and events to become a shining spectacle with endless visual potential.”

The stadium will be built alongside two training pitches and as well as a shopping area and a section built for open-air events and concerts.
