Celebrate some weird and whimsical holidays with these colourful Polish stamp designs

Polish designer Jacek Walesiak is commemorating some of the modern world’s weird and whimsical holidays with a special collection of stamps paying tribute to Poland’s graphic design heyday.

Walesiak, co-partner and co-creative director at Warsaw’s UVMW design studio, created 30 unique collections, spanning events from Trolley Driver Day and National Statistics Day to Towel Day and PAC-MAN Day.

Each of the sets were designed to create one, cohesive illustration when seen together, as well as eye-catching individual pieces.

Walesiak hopes that the project will force those commissioning stamp designs to confront what he believes is low-level work blighting the country’s commemorative stamp collections.

“Designs in the 1960s and 1980s were often executed at a very high level — in contrast to current postage stamp designs, which, in my opinion, are often of poor quality,” he says.
