Plans have been approved for the world’s first international cable car in Russia’s Far East.
Travellers will be whisked away from the city of Blagoveshchensk and across the Amur River until they arrive in the Chinese city of Heihe.
The entire cross-border journey will take place in just seven-and-a-half minutes, including three-and-a-half minutes airtime.
Up to 60 passengers will be able to travel in cabins leaving the terminal every 15 minutes.
Designed by Dutch architects UNStudio, the Blagoveshchensk terminal building was inspired by the frozen Amur river and the connections that flourished across the ancient boundary line.
A new shared urban space will connect the terminal to the existing Blagoveshchensk Cultural Centre, creating terraces and green plateaus to act as an elevated park, with space for urban sculptures and panoramic viewing points.
Construction on the cable car and its terminals is expected to start in 2020.
