Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi has created a series of biting drawings in support of teens protesting for action on climate change.
The artist, who is already known for his tongue-in-cheek and satirical sketches, created the work following the backlash against eco-activist Greta Thunberg’s speech at the UN Climate Action Summit in New York last month.
“I was outraged by the hate speech against Greta,” Perjovschi told The Calvert Journal. “‘How dare you?’ is an essential question to ask the leaders of this world.”
Sharing the series on Facebook, Perjovschi said that he featured Greta in his initial drawings, but later consciously moved away from the hype surrounding the Swedish teenager. His latest drawings depict instead an unnamed girl.
Commenting on one sketch, which shows a crowd cheering and pushes the teenage activist towards a group of armed men, the artist explained, “We are all together [in that crowd] — me as the author, you as a commentator, Facebook friends as viewers. It is a self-ironic drawing and at the same time a critique of people hiding behind a kid.”
