The Made in Prague festival is returning to London to showcase the best of contemporary Czech cinema.
Now in its 23rd edition, the film festival, which covers life and society since the Velvet Revolution, will open with Most! — an acerbic 2019 comedy following one small community as they’re caught between the best and the worst moments in 30 years of tumultuous Czech history.
Other films that blend the personal with the political include the 2019 drama Let There Be Light, which follows one father’s attempts to stop his son’s slide towards the extreme right wing. There’s also the 2017 documentary A Marriage Story, which follows 35 years in the life of a married couple as they readjust to living under capitalism.
The latest generation of emerging filmmakers will also be featured in a special series on the best of Czech animation. It’s set to include the winner of the 2019 Student Academy Awards, Daughter: a puppet-based drama following a strained father–daughter relationship and the limits of mutual understanding.
Made in Prague runs from 8 to 17 November. Find more details and tickets here.
