This Insta account is reviving the graphic design behind Yugoslavia's sleek socialist-era brands

Instagram account @Yugo.Logo is a must-follow introduction to the graphic designs of former Yugoslavia, showcasing the socialist brands that once graced libraries, newspapers, tractors, airplanes and scooters among its growing visual archive.

If you grew up in the region however, you may notice at least one subtle change: the logos have all been remade in red. In many cases this was not the brand’s original colour, but the change does serve to bring out the outlines of each individual design and give the account its unified aesthetic. There are a few exceptions however, such as the 1984 Olympic logo, presented in multiple colour schemes.

Though many of the designers’ names are unknown, the captions include basic information about each company and organisation, giving a beginner’s guide to Yugoslavia’s communist economy. How many of these logos do you recognise today?
