Belarusian Nobel Laureate Svetlana Alexievich is opening a new publishing house exclusively dedicated to printing female authors.
Speaking to the Belarusian newspaper Nasha Niva, Alexievich said that she hopes this will address the disproportionate ratio of published works by male to female writers.
“Men are everywhere, and very few works of women get published,” she said.
Alexievich, who came up with the idea half a year ago, said she hopes this will “affect the confidence of women writers and their desire to write.”
The publishing house will open in a few months, with titles from Belarusian authors Eva Veznavets and Tatyana Skorkina to be among the first to be published.
