Russian art-activist brand Kultrab to launch feminist calendar for International Women’s Day

26 February 2020

Russian clothing label and activist community Kultrab is launching a feminist calendar in honour of International Woman’s Day 2020. The project, called Solidarity, uses art to celebrate Russia’s marginalised communities and the ongoing fight against the patriarchy.

The calendar, curated by Russian feminist activist and designer Polina Titova, is a unique edition with only 300 copies in circulation. Each page of Solidarity is dedicated to a recent social justice campaign in Russia, with illustrations from upcoming illustrators such as DJ and artist Lolja Nordic. The issues they highlight include the Shiyes protests against the construction of a toxic garbage landfill in Russia’s Arkhangelsk region, and the case of the Khachaturyan sisters, prosecuted for murder after killing their abusive father.

Similarly, Kultrab’s calendar doesn’t mark religious or patriotic holidays, but important dates for marginalised communities, such as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, World AIDS Day, or International Coming Out Day.

Pre-order your copy on Kultrab’s online store for 900 roubles (approx. £10.60).
