From gossiping grandmas to effortless fashionistas, discover the people of Bucharest

Every city has its own types, and @peopleofbucharest celebrates the Romanian capital’s own very different inhabitants, from vigilent neighbourhood overseers to cycling hipsters.

Most of the shots — curated from Insta pics by local photographers — are taken outdoors, on the streets, capturing people at work, or relaxing in cafes.

Some unmissable style queens give the feed a splash of glamour, but traditional costumes also bring their own local flavour and authenticity to the @peopleofbucharest gaze. (The lavender seller’s sign sweetly says, “Music opens the heart”.)

Not all urban life is joyous however, and @peopleofbucharest doesn’t shy away from showing the poverty sweeping up the city.

In some pics, the focus changes from portraiture to the beautiful architecture that makes up the fabric of the city itself.

But no image of a city is complete without a glimpse into the buzzing life that hides underneath the city’s streets.
