London cinema Bertha DocHouse is hosting an online watchparty for Serbian film The Other Side of Everything, complete with a Q&A with director Mila Turajlić.
The documentary begins with a locked door in the divided Belgrade flat in which Turajlić spent her childhood. The campaign work of Turajlić’s peace activist mother means they are constantly watched by neighbours and the state. But when the tenant living on the other side of the divided flat dies, the door in their apartment is finally opened — and stories begin to spill out from the other side.
Shot against a backdrop of the Yugoslav Wars, the film explores the different political responsibilities and fight each generation undertakes for the future of their country.
The film, made in 2017, won the Best Feature-Length Documentary Award at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam.
The Q&A session will take place on 1 May at 8.45pm BST.
