Chernobyl nominated in 14 categories at BAFTA

TV series Chernobyl has scooped 14 nominations for this year’s BAFTA Television Awards, including best leading actor, best mini-series, and best supporting actor.

The success makes the Sky Atlantic/HBO drama one of the most-nominated shows in BAFTA history, tying for the top spot with the BBC’s Killing Eve. The mini-series also took home 19 Emmys earlier this year.

Set in Soviet Ukraine and Belarus, the five-part series tells the story of the 1986 nuclear explosion at the eponymous Chernobyl power plant. The series is heavily inspired by Nobel prize-winning author Svetlana Alexievich’s book The Chernobyl Prayer.

Other shows dominating the BAFTA’s nomination list this year include The Crown, with seven nominations, and Fleabag and Giri/Haji, with six nominations each.
