Russian theatre stages Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard inside Minecraft

A St Petersburg theatre has held a special performance of Anton Chekhov’s play The Cherry Orchard inside computer game Minecraft.

The online premiere of the 15-minute play took place on 14 June on Youtube and the Russian social network VKontakte. Directed by Edgar Zakaryan, the production by the G.A. Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater saw actors voicing their characters in real time, while their Minecraft avatars moved across a pre-crafted virtual stage.
