The Calvert Journal Film Festival: new online programme to run 12-18 October

The Calvert Journal is launching its first-ever film festival, taking place online between 12–18 October.

The Calvert Journal Film Festival: 7 Days of New East Cinema Online is a journey across Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, and Central Asia through the lens of the region’s independent filmmakers.

The festival will feature seven films screened on The Calvert Journal website, with a different feature available to watch each day for 24 hours.

Showcasing both fiction and documentary features, with subjects ranging from environmental disaster and single motherhood to millennial struggles and generational disconnect, the festival’s programme aims to celebrate the region’s diverse perspectives, from Slovenia to Kazakhstan.

A special series of features and online events will also run alongside the screenings, exploring the region’s challenges, opportunities, and contemporary identity.
