Belarusian football team releases new kit inspired by avant-garde artwork
Belarusian football team FC Vitebsk have dropped a new kit inspired by the Soviet avant-garde.
The strip is a tribute to suprematist artist El Lissitzky’s 1919 poster, Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge.

Created during the Russian Civil War, the artwork shows a red wedge — symbolising the Bolsheviks — who penetrate and defeat their opponents, represented by a white circle.
El Lissitzky is considered one of the main figures of the Russian avant-garde alongside his mentor, Kazimir Malevich. The artist was born in Smolensk, Russia, but spent a large portion of his childhood in Vitebsk, where he returned in his late 20s to teach at the city’s newly-formed art school at the invitation of artist Marc Chagall.
