Comedy, cartoons, and biopics: Made in Prague Festival opens online

Arts festival Made in Prague has opened online with an array of documentaries, feature films, and electronic music to celebrate contemporary Czech and Eastern European culture.

Running until 30 November, the festival includes documentaries on great Czech artists such as surrealist filmmaker Jan Švankmaje and photographer Antonín Kratochvíl, a four-time World Press Photo winner.

Organised by the Czech Centre in London, the event also features Charlatan, Agnieszka Holland’s biopic of a Czech healer using herbal medicines who was persecuted by the authorities, and Owners, a comedy following tensions between businesses, bureaucracy, and activists in contemporary Czech society.

Animation lovers will be able to watch the adventures of the Hungry Bear Tales, and children are invited to join an online drawing workshop with the characters’ creator, Tereza Bušková.

All movie screenings will also include Q&A sessions with the directors and artists featured.

Now at its 24th edition, the festival will end with an electronic music concert by Czech experimental duo Bratři, Hungarian band Óperentzia, Polish musician Hatti Vatti, who will perform her own lockdown creations, and Slovak singer-composer Katarína Máliková.
