Take the edge off 2021 with a healthy dose of Hungarian funk-soul

Combining 70s soul tunes with contemporary beat tapes, the latest music video from Hungarian artist Perrin is an ode to slower living.

Fusing elements of underground funk and indie pop with soothing electronic vocals, “Zen Mode”, recorded against the backdrop of the artist’s plant-filled living room, is a hypnotic invitation to reflect on the past year and life’s ups-and-downs.

“The year behind us brought so many changes to our lives, I think all of us are a bit confused about what to do, where to go next,” Perrin told The Calvert Journal. “This song was born with my head in zen mode, it is full of good energy, and it helps you take things easy even for just a few minutes. That vibe is something that we really need right now.”

The track is the latest release of the Budapest-based indie pop musician, following two 2020 singles, “The Hills” and “July”, and his first EP, Lay Down, released in 2018. It’s also the first release from the artist’s upcoming album, which is due to be released in June 2021.
