Film festival Kinoteka is celebrating its 2021 edition with an online programme that combines the cream of Polish TV and theatre with the country’s best cinematic releases.
This festival, which showcases Polish directing and acting in film, theatre and TV, will be streaming between 6 May and 4 June across the UK.
The festival kicks off with Mariusz Wilczyński’s award-winning animated debut feature Kill It and Leave This Town, a surrealist reflection on memory and loss. Other screenings include Sweat, Magnus von Horn’s tale of a social media-fuelled breakdown that was selected for Cannes 2020.
The wider programme includes two strands dedicated to masters of 20th and 21st century Polish cinema, featuring offerings from Jerzy Skolimowski, Andrzej Żuławski and Agnieszka Holland.
Kinoteka is also opening its programme to theatre for the first time, thanks to a new partnership with The Theatre Times’ International Online Theatre Festival. The yet-to-be-announced performances will showcase a selection of on stage works from leading Polish theatremakers.
Television is also set to feature, with London’s POSK Cinema premiering the first two episodes of two recent breakout Polish TV productions: crime thriller Raven and gritty interwar gangster drama The King of Warsaw.
