MUBI is offering a 30-day free trial for Calvert Journal readers

Good news, arthouse aficionados: The Calvert Journal has partnered with indie streaming platform MUBI to offer a 30-day free trial.

The deal celebrates the release of Sergei Loznitsa’s State Funeral, a monumental archival oeuvre that unearths rarely-seen footage of Stalin’s 1953 funeral and the tumultuous days that followed. The film will be available to stream online on MUBI almost worldwide from 21 May, and it is already available in select theatres in the United States and the UK.

Other highlights from MUBI’s library, accessible with the 30-day trial, include Poetry of the Everyday, a selection of three films by Lithuanian director Jonas Mekas, Kiril Serebrennikov’s Leto, and a retrospective on Hungarian filmmaker Marta Meszarós. Also available is Dea Kulumbegashvili’s acclaimed film Beginning, the Oscar-nominated Russian historical drama Beanpole by Kantemir Balagov, and a string of arthouse classics from Eastern European and Central Asian directors.

MUBI was launched in 2007, after founder Efe Cakarel struggled to find a streaming platform where he could watch Wong Kar-wai’s In The Mood For Love. MUBI is now available almost worldwide, with a changing 30-title programme and its own permanent collection.
