Who: Nina Kraviz, a Siberia-born music maker who has long been making waves as one of the world’s most in-demand DJs. Kraviz originally trained as a dentist, but rose to fame in 2009 after the release of her debut track, “Pain in the Ass”. Since then, she’s released two albums, launched her own record label, and played sets across the world — including in her adopted hometown of Berlin, and in Moscow, the city where she first made a name for herself on the electronic music scene.
What to expect: a dreamy, melancholic electronic track mixing catchy beats with dazzling vocals. Skyscrapers is the first single from Kraviz’s upcoming EP, which is due to be released later this year. It’ll be followed by a full length album in 2022.
What they say: “I wrote ‘Skyscrapers’ on one of my long trips to a far-away country,” says Kraviz. “It is a love song. It is about missing someone very much even if you don’t always get along and agree on things. In moments like that, you just want to run away as fast as you can, only to feel like you want to come back five minutes later.”
Why you need to listen: Mixing electronic beats with melodic pop sounds and lyrical vocals, “Skyscrapers” showcases Kraviz’s talent beyond DJ-ing. Despite staying true to her electronic background, the track is more pop-leaning than Kraviz’s previous work, hinting at an album that possibly brings a new style to her usual electronic mix.
