Magazine @pluralmag.ru is providing fresh platform for Russia’s emerging photographers and artists.
Plural Magazine launched its dedicated site in August 2021 to encourage collaboration between artists and photographers in Russia. Their Instagram provides a peek at the projects featured in-depth on their pages: from Sofya Skidan’s surreal digital representations of mythical-like figures, to Evgeny Melnikov’s tactile and melancholy photos of everyday objects, including flat tires, megaphones, and power cables.
The magazine also hopes to challenge the limits and conventions of photography, as seen in dysmorphic portraits by makeup artist Yury Belyavsky, or Sveta Maximova‘s experimental brightly-painted take on fashion photography
Crucially, Plural Magazine wants to create a space for diversity and genre-defying art. “We’re trying to build a bridge between visual artists from all across the country,” the team told The Calvert Journal. “We don’t like to categorise our creators or put them in any box. We’d rather encourage them to create something authentic and honest.”
