There are few Instagram accounts that are as stylistically diverse as @balkan.collective, an eclectic showcase of boundary-pushing photography from South and Eastern Europe, and across the world.
The account is run by BULB, an international collective of photographers, founded in Bucharest in 2015. 18 of its members currently curate @balkan.collective, a team that comprises photographers, curators, and editors.
“The Bulb Collective consists of photographers active in urban (and rural) photography with an expressive shift to include highly aesthetic and poetic images in their assignments,” explains Moscholios. “We share the same vision but not the same perspective, which gives the necessary ‘polyphony’ in our extremely ambitious endeavour to cover all aspects of Balkan neorealism.”
Since 2015, BULB has published 10 photo books, 20 bimonthly e-zines, and held international shows. In 2017, they featured in the Miami Street Photography Festival.
