Russian perfumiers have launched a new scent designed to cater to the hidden desires of men everywhere — to smell like a fighter jet.

Complete with notes of metal, leather, and exhaust fumes, the perfume was made to mark the launch of the fifth-generation Sukhoi fighter jet. The plane was unveiled last weekend at the Dubai Airshow 2021 by Russian industrial conglomerate Rostec.

Named “Checkmate” in honour of the jet’s official nickname, the perfume bottle is shaped with a topper in the style of a traditional knight chess piece.

Scent specialists took “samples of the aircraft’s metal alloy, glass and leather trim” to create the cologne, combining them with more conventional shades of juniper, patchouli and oak moss, Rostec told Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

Yet sadly, those waiting for a delicately-wrapped slice of the global military-industrial complex for Christmas this year may be disappointed. Currently, there are no plans to release the perfume onto the general market.
