A Russian NGO has published the names of five architectural and urban planning firms that have been shortlisted to design Park Russia, Europe’s largest theme park. Russian Green Building Council, a not-for-profit industry organisation that aims to encourage greener infrastructure, announced that the following five companies had been picked from a list of 26 applicants: Citymakers, Cushman & Wakefield, Hosper, Mosproject and a consortium of Balmori, base4 and DBA Proekt. The five will now submit concepts for the park before the end of the competition in December.
Russia Park will be located near Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport and will divided into seven different areas, each focusing on a different type of interest from sports to education. Overall, the park will include an amusement park, a concert hall, a hall dedicated to Nobel laureates, a Museum of Russian Geographical Discoveries, a waterpark, an ice-skating rink, a botanical garden, a safari park, a shopping centre, a spa, a hotel for overnight stays and much more. According to the website, the purpose of Russia Park ail be to promote a “healthy lifestyle, knowledge and entertainment”. Organisers hope that the size and variety of activities on offer will encourage tourists to stay for several days.
