British designer Pam Hogg used Pussy Riot as the inspiration for her latest, politically-charged collection which was unveiled at London Fashion Week (LFW) on Friday. Although Hogg had not planned to show at LFW this year, a request from Amnesty International was enough to change her mind giving her only three weeks to design the entire collection.
In an interview with Hunger TV, Hogg said: “The collection is called COURAGE inspired by their [Pussy Riot’s] stance on exit from jail. Still resolute and even more so. Bright colours are a part of their trademark so I built on that and what they stood for ie rights for all. It’s a celebration of gay culture that has made our society so much richer.”
On the commercial value of the collection, she added: “It’s a total dedication to Pussy Riot, it’s not intended for sale. I’m using it as an event to give people with a louder voice than mine a chance to show their support and make some waves in the progress of equality for all.”
Russia is front-and-centre of Amnesty’s agenda right now. Last week, the NGO joined SHOWstudio and a host of celebrities from the fashion world including Kate Moss to create a series of short videos condemning the “gay propaganda” law.
