The Mixtape 11: Stoned Boys

3 June 2014

Our new mixtape comes from Stoned Boys, an electronic duo who combine international inspiration — early raves, David Cronenberg, HR Giger — with the homegrown influence of Soviet artists like Stalker composer Eduard Artemyev. Now working in Moscow, Andrew Lee, from Tashkent in Uzbekistan, and Yevgeny Gorbunov, from Khabarovsk in Russia’s Far East, describe their exclusive Calvert Journal mix as “Dark music for dark times”. With its collage of dirty techno, post-industrial sound and some of the Seventies experimentalism featured on their recent EP Cyberjesus, the mixtape has an urban feel and a “revolutionary spirit, like a teenager ready to light a Molotov cocktail”. But never fear: “Our heart’s in the right place. Actually we’re nice guys.“
