The results of a competition to find creative ways of reusing abandoned industrial spaces in Russia will go on show at the Winzavod Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow this Friday. The competition, Design Territory: Old Space - New Quality, was open to young architects and designers, and received more than 100 submissions.

Entries included a redesign of a former foundry in Moscow, a wine warehouse in Abrau Durso in southern Russia, a formal naval building on the island of Krohnstadt near St Petersburg and a mill in Khabarovsk in the Russian Far East. Winzavod President Sofia Trotsenko said: β€œThe ideas presented here show that young designers are able and willing to work with our historical legacy. This is a very important contribution to our future and city authorities and planners should take note.”

First Prize: Nikita Barinov, reconstruction of a grain storage facility in Moscow
