This new mixtape comes from DJ Boora, a Russian beatmaker who is now based in Moscow but spent the previous 10 years in Kaliningrad. Boora is into hip-hop culture, but not just in a musical sense: he’s a part of a B-boy team, Zames Crew and is also involved in the subcultural clothing brand HHX. The mixtape however is not what you would expect to be typically labelled under hip-hop. Titled The Art of 10 Seconds, it is compiled from abstract hip-hop beats created with an E-mu SР-1200 sampler (which only takes 10 seconds of a sample and produces a dirty 12-bit sound). The material for samples includes Soviet songs, cinema soundtracks and music from Soviet animation and TV programmes from the 1960s-80s. The projects consists of three parts, and after finishing the fourth and final one, Boora is planning to release it on cassette.
