The Calvert Journal has been nominated for the independent Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Prize’s award for the promotion of art in the media. The Calvert Journal joins seven other online media projects in the category, including Harper’s Bazaar Art, The Art Newspaper, Afish Vozdukh, Garage Magazine, Art Guide, Around Art and Blouin Artinfo.

Established in 2009, the Kuryokhin Prize is one of Russia’s most prestigious independent art awards. The prize is based on the Pop-Mechanica principles established in the 1990s by Russian artist and musician Sergey Kuryokhin, which privilege improvisation, unpredictability and provocation within art and the continual search for new interaction between different art forms.

Among the jury at this year’s award are Mikhail Piotrovsky, director of the State Hermitage Museum, Elena Kolovskaya, director for the Pro Arte foundation, and the Soviet film actor Sergei Solovyov. The award ceremony will take place on 17 April in St Petersburg.
