Moscow-based Strelka Institute has been selected to curate the Russian pavilion at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, a decision backed by world-renowned architect Rem Koolhaas. Grigory Revzin, chief curator of the Russian pavilion, made the announcement today, adding that Koolhaas, who is director of the Biennale, supported the selection because of the greater level of student participation it would bring.
Strelka, a not-for-profit organisation, offers free tuition to young people with backgrounds in architecture, design and the social sciences. Koolhaas has close links to the institute; he not only designed Strelka’s educational programme but has also visited as a guest lecturer.
The 40th Venice Architecture Biennale takes place between June and November 2014. The theme will be Fundamentals, which according to Koolhaas, will focus on the “evolution of architecture” over the last 100 years.
