Architects of Hungary’s pavilion for Milan Expo disassociate themselves from design amid controversy

The designers of Hungary’s pavilion for the 2015 Milan Universal Expo have disassociated themselves with the building, following claims that they were excluded from the design process after submitting the plans to organisers last summer. In a statement, the architects of the building, Attila Ertsey, Ágnes Herczeg, György Stocker, György Podoski and Éva Borsiné Arató, added that they had not seen the final version of the pavilion.

The move marks the latest in a line of controversial events surrounding the pavilion, which attracted media attention after notable architects from Hungary’s prestigious technology university labelled the pavilion designs as “kitschy architectural parody”.

The pavilion, which comprises three floors covering 1,910 square metres, was inspired by Noah’s Ark and chosen in a public competition. Construction of the building is expected to cost around HUF 5 billion ($178,900).
