The Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture has appointed British-born Kate Fowles as its new chief curator. Fowles has been director of Independent Curators International, a New York-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to training curators and organising travelling exhibitions. Before that she was a curator at the Ullens Centre for Contemporary Arts in Beijing. Fowle will join prominent Swiss curator Hans-Ulrich Obrist, who is the centre’s international programme advisor.
Garage was established by Dasha Zhukova in 2008. Orignally based in the constructivist Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, it moved into a temporary pavilion in Gorky Park in 2012. A permanent building for the centre in Gorky Park is currently under development.
