Artists living in Russia’s regions have come up trumps in the shortlist for the Innovation award, Russia’s equivalent of the Turner Prize.
Celebrated street artist Timofey Radya from Yekaterinburg and Krasnodar art collective ZIP were both named in the New Generation category. Art group Provmyza from Nizhny Novgorod made it to the Visual Art shortlist along with Arseniy Zhilyaev, a well-known Moscow-based artist, writer and political activist.
The Innovation award is a state-sponsored prize for contemporary visual arts in Russia. A selection of shortlisted works will go on show at Moscow’s National Centre for Contemporary Art from 21 March to 5 May. The winners for each of the five categories will be announced on 9 April.
