Europe’s leading biennial of contemporary art, Manifesta 10, is heading to St Petersburg next year, according to The Art Newspaper Russia. Noted Russian curator and Manifesta board member Viktor Miziano told arts portal Colta.ru that although talks were currently underway, he could not yet confirm whether the festival would be coming to Russia in 2014.
Manifesta, which is supported by the European Commission, is a roving festival that aims to bring contemporary art to new territories and, according to their website, to investigate “the psychological and geographical territory of Europe”. Previous hosts include Rotterdam (1996), Ljubljana (2000) and Limburg (2012). It is considered the third most prestigious European art event, after the Venice Biennale and dOCUMENTA in Kassel.
