Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy pays homage to cult artist

23 July 2015

Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy has revealed a new collection that pays tribute to Timur Novikov, a leading figure in non-conformist art.

In his capsule collection of t-shirts, caps, sweatshirts and socks, Rubchinskiy has combined elements of his own signature post-Soviet aesthetic and Novikov’s graphic art, using bold colours and simple patterns. In particular, Rubchinskiy makes use of the iconic rising sun motif.

Although he passed away in 2002, Novikov has cult status among Russian youth and is remembered for his role in the 1980s underground art scene in St Petersburg, as well as his status as an influential figure in non-conformist art.

The collection is due to launch on 25 June, and will be available at the London, New York and Tokyo branches of Dover Street Market, as well as at the Comme des Garçons Trading Museum in Paris.
