Russian online travel firm Oktogo has been named as one of the world’s 50 most innovative companies by Fast Company magazine. The hotel booking and travel agency has managed to succeed in a country that is highly averse to using credit cards online.
Oktogo is reported to have made $30m last year, up from $6m in 2011, the year of its launch. To date, the company has focused on apps as smartphone penetration is deeper than broadband. It also has kiosks at train stations so customers can pay in cash.
Fast Company listed Oktogo as the 35th most innovative company. First place went to Nike followed by Amazon and Square.
