Alexander Sokurov’s Francofonia trailer released

4 September 2015

The trailer for Francofonia, the latest film by Russian director Alexander Sokurov, has been released.

Sokurov, famed for Faust and Russian Ark, explores the relationship between art and power through a reflection on the Louvre museum. Although the film opens in 1940s occupied Paris, Sokurov infuses the narrative with reflections on the place of art throughout many centuries of history, and combines narrative drama with elements of documentary cinema.

The French-German-Dutch co-production, which was filmed largely in the Louvre itself, premiered last night at the Venice Film Festival.
